MPI WEC Opening Reception
The setting was on the banks of the Mississippi River between the modern Guthrie Theater and the preserved ruins of an old flour mill & museum. Our client, Meet Minneapolis, wanted to entertain, amuse, impress and wow 2500 Meeting Professionals when they came to Minneapolis for their conference. Event Lab earned the distinction of “lead production company” for the opening reception.
The theme and branding was “Minneapolis: City by Nature”. Urban and natural scenes came to life with cuisine crafted by local Minneapolis caterers combined with art-inspired decor. Our client’s goal was to equip seasoned meeting planners with a cadre′ of talented local vendors and inspire them to host their next meeting/conference in Minneapolis.
Event Lab Solutions
Event Lab worked with our client in bringing together the most talented vendors in town. Our challenge was to coordinate the multiple suppliers in a unified effort of production. From tents to audio visual to decor and catering, all needed to work in a synergistic fashion.
It was the vision of Meet Minneapolis to create 4 distinctive zones within the 49′ x 295′ tent & adjacent museum space. Event Lab was not only responsible for the overall floor plan design, but also for decorating 2 of the zones. and a VIP lounge.
Zone 1: FROM PARKS TO PRADA featured a runway show of fashion by local designers to the energetic sound from DJ Shannon Blowtorch. The decor in this area represented the 210 parks in the City of Minneapolis.
Zone 2: FROM MUSKIE TO MONET showcased the lakes, rivers, woods and walleye; as well as artwork from the many museums. Our bars, pub tables, stools, leather furniture, canoe and native flowers all enhanced the feeling of being “up north”.
Zone 3: FROM FOUR-STAR TO STARGAZING was all about the award-winning theaters and night life in Minneapolis. The stage was built to look like First Avenue, the club that Prince made famous. An elevated VIP lounge overlooked the dance floor of this area.
Zone 4: FROM SECOND ACTS TO NATURAL FACTS had a quiet, hip vibe in the outdoor area of the Mill City Museum. Funky, mis-matched furniture and an aria by an opera singer was a perfect place to grab dessert and catch up with friends in the industry.
