From ordinary to extraordinary How do you kick an event up a notch? Think about how to maximize the venue space. Event Lab recently created a show-stopping visual by adding an aerialist to the decor for an event at International Market Square. Suspended from the five story atrium of IMS, the "swinger", decked out in flowing headress and robes, provided another dimension of entertainment for the hundreds of people packed on the dance floor. The client reaped the benefts of a unique decor element that had guests talking about the event for weeks to come.

Tips & Tricks - Layers of Lighting One of the best ways to add ambiance to a room is with lighting. But to create special ambiance for an evening event, don't just rely on overheads or candles on the tables. Create layers of lighting with centerpieces that "rise to the occasion." One example is Event Lab's votive trees. These five-foot tall metal "trees" allow for layers of votive candles suspended above the tables for layers of light that add a shimmering and magical effect to the event decor. In addition, floral arrangements can be placed at the base of the votive tree or elevated above the table. Great for intimate corporate dinners, galas, and holiday functions.
Balancing Colors to Make the Room Pop There are beautiful colors to look at and beautiful colors to be seen in. An environment should have three main attributes: It should be fun to look at; it should be beautiful to be in, making everyone feel fantastic; and it should make everyone look good. As simple as this may sound, it can be challenging and the reason is color. Colors such as purples, blues and greens are nice to look at, but do not flatter the skin. Colors that make people look their best (ambers, pinks, peaches, honeys and apricots) are flattering, but not necessarily the most dramatic. The goal should be to craft an environment that creates a dramatic and beautiful environment while at the same time creating a flattering one. A combination of colors, when appropriate, combined with changes in ilighting intensity will do wonders to create drama and flair at your next event.
Designing for the Sexes
If you want to have a great looking party, just follow the clothing industry. All the hot trends in ladies fashion come to play when designing an event. All the hot trends in fashion play out in events whether it is on the top of the table, the color of the room or accessories that accent the decor. Keep the linen, chair cover and flowers all in the same shades creating a monochromatic look, and the room looks grounded, warm and inviting. Add lots of chunky candles at varying heights adorned with lots of jewelry and the tabletop will be the talk of the event.
The same jewelry that is at every fashion retailer can be used to accent the table. Use jeweled broaches on the napkins or on the chair ties; long necklaces of beads and chains can drape around the base of the centerpiece. By adding these little sparkly details to a monochromatic room you will add a bit of whimsy, fun and make every table a little bit different.
So, the jewelry just doesn't quite make it for that group of men you have to entertain? Try using different shapes of tables - not just all rounds. Use squares and even serpentines to mix up the room with a bit of geometry. Men enjoy simplicity so make the tables sleek and contemporary with steel gray and cool blue tones. Centerpieces should be simple - river rock and candles on a weighted tray or even an arrangement of one type of flower works well. The important part is that the decor does not overwhelm the conversation, where with women, the decor is the conversation.
